R-MC Volleyball Wraps up Regular Season with Three Wins at Emory Tournament

EMORY, GA, -- The Randolph-Macon volleyball team capped its 2009 regular season with three wins at the Emory University Halloween Tournament this weekend. The Yellow Jackets defeated LaGrange, Birmingham Southern and Berry to finish the regular season 25-6. R-MC's lone blemish came at the hands of No. 4 and host Emory.

On Friday, R-MC downed LaGrange 3-0 behind 14 kills from Raena Winton. Savanna Love dished out 22 assists. Defensively, Alix Macrae had six blocks, while Jill Kubichan had 14 digs.

In a 3-1 victory over Birmingham Southern, Winton had 15 kills, while Mallory Carter had 13. Sam Block directed the offense with 17 assists, while her fellow setters Love and Courtney Anderson had 13 a piece. Kubichan turned in her second 30 dig performance of the year, while Casey West and Macrae each had seven total blocks in the win over BSC.

On Saturday, R-MC dropped a 3-0 decision to Emory, but rallied to close out the tournament with a 3-0 win over Berry. In that match, Winton and Jessica Sears each had 10 kills and Carter added seven. Anderson had 20 assists, while Kubichan and Sears had 25 and 21 digs, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Friday in the first round of the ODAC Tournament at Hollins. Top-seeded R-MC will take on Guilford at 4:00 p.m.
