Sweet Briar Sneaks Past R-MC in Tri-Meet
ASHLAND, VA - R-MC Swimming touched first in six of eleven events but, could not overcome Sweetbriar College who got past the Yellow Jackets 48-47 in Ashland Saturday. Randolph-Macon finished ahead of Greensboro College 66-18 in a non-conference matchup.
Rebecca Stevenson (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) and Elizabeth Buckley (Springfield, VA/ Robert E. Lee) picked up two individual wins each. Stevenson touched first in the 1650 yard freestyle (19:01.59) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:30.31). Buckley took the top time in the 200 yard freestyle (2:02.60) and the 100 yard freestyle (56.96).
The Yellow Jackets also earned individual wins from Lara O'Brien (Sugar Land, TX/ William P. Clements) in the 400 Yard IM (4:55.82) and Sarah (Estes Park, CO/ Estes Park) Almond touched first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:17.09).
Sweet Briar took first place in the final event of the meet after R-MC was disqualified for a false start on an exchange in the 800 yard freestyle relay. The Vixens also defeated Greensboro College 74-17.
Randolph-Macon Swimming will be back in action February 12th when they compete in the ODAC Championships held at Radford University.
