Sarah Almond Leads R-MC Swimming to 150-100 Win Over Bridgewater

ASHLAND, VA-Sarah Almond took first place in three individual events as Randolph-Macon Swimming earned a 150-100 victory over Bridgewater College Saturday in Ashland. R-MC took first place in 11 of the 12 events along with both exhibitions.

The 400 yard medley relay team of Katherine Dodd (Craig, CO/Moffat County), Lara O'Brien (Sugar Land, TX/ William P. Clements), Corinne Campbell (Baltimore, MD/ Lock Raven) and Ellie Shea (Ashland, VA/ Northfield Mount Hermon) touched first with a time of 4:36.78 to start the meet for the Yellow Jackets.

Almond (Estes Park, CO/ Estes Park) touched first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.68), 50 yard freestyle (26.00) and 100 yard freestyle (57.78) to lead Randolph-Macon with 27 points.

Elizabeth Buckley (Springfield, VA/ Robert E. Lee) placed first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:01.93), just ahead of teammate Rebecca Stevenson(Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) who finished second at 2:02.01. Buckley picked up her second first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.46) later in the meet.

Brianna Lovell (Newport News, VA/ Menchville) also picked up two individual wins with first place finishes in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.41) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:46.91)

O'Brien picked up an individual win in the 200 yard butterfly (2:22.73) and an exhibition win in the 200 yard IM (2:25.09)

Stevenson and Tracy Spurrier (Baltimore, MD/ Lock Raven) added individual first place finishes with Stevenson winning the 500 yard freestyle (5:32.50) and Spurrier touching first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:29.41)

In other exhibition action, the 400 freestyle relay team of Buckley, Stevenson, Shea, and Almond touched first with a time of (3:56.79).

R-MC Swimming will be back in action Saturday, January 23rd, when they host a tri-meet on senior day against Sweet Briar and Greensboro at 1:00 p.m.
