Washington and Lee Holds Off Randolph-Macon 150-112
Washington and Lee held off Randolph-Macon 150-112 in ODAC swimming action Saturday afternoon.
R-MC won the first three events of the meet, and went on to take eight out of fourteen contested events on the afternoon. R-MC swimmers also swept both relay events, with the 400 freestyle relay team establishing a new Estes Aquatic Center pool record.
The 200 medley relay team of Caitlin Proctor, Kellianne Mullin, Cat Ware, and Sarah Almond took the opening event in 1:55.17, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Lizzy Buckley, Rebecca Stevenson, Ware, and Almond took the final event of the meet in 3:46.44 to set the new pool mark.
Individually, Almond and Ware each added two more victories. Almond took the 50 freestyle in 25.35, then led an R-MC 1-2 finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.17. Ware swept the butterfly events on the afternoon, leading a 1-2 finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.98, and taking the 200 butterfly in 2:17.42.
Stevenson took first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:13.65, then added a second place in the 500 freestyle with a 5:25.45. Buckley led from start to finish to capture the 200 freestyle in 2:00.40, and then finished second in both the 100 freestyle (56.36) and the 100 butterfly (1:04.05).
