Yellow Jackets Lead Wire to Wire for 83-64 Victory Over Randolph College
ASHLAND, VA-Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball held a 48-28 rebounding edge over Randolph College in route to an 83-64 win in Ashland Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets improve to 14-4 (12-2 ODAC) while the Wildcats fall to 3-16 (2-13 ODAC).
Sophomore guard Maggie Roy (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) opened up the Yellow Jackets offense when she knocked down a three just 14 seconds into the contest. Roy knocked down another three with 15:19 left in the first half to finish off a 16-5 opening run.
R-MC Senior Molly Ariail (York, PA/ York Suburban) knocked down a pair of free throws with 8:42 to go in the first stanza to spark a 14-2 run that was capped four minutes later on a jumper by Jennifer O'Briant (Chesterfield, VA/ Manchester). The 14-2 stretch put the Yellow Jackets up 36-18.
Randolph-Macon headed into the locker room with a 46-24 advantage after Stephanie Grune (Virginia Beach, VA/ Cape Henry) converted a layup just before halftime.
Despite the Wildcats shooting 56.3 % from the field and 5 of 7 from three in the second half, the Yellow Jackets led by as many as 27 before finishing off the Wildcats 83-64.
Ariail led all scorers with 21 points while also pulling down 11 rebounds in just 16 minutes of playing time. Taylor Wieczorek (Grasonville, MD/ Severn) joined Ariail in double figures with 13 points and four rebounds.
Katie Rechnitzer dropped in 17 points to lead four Wildcats in double figure scoring. Megan Carney and Lindsay Cross finished with 13 each while Lauren French went three for three from beyond the arc to finish with 11.
