Christopher Newport Uses Big Second Half to Get Past R-MC 78-67
NEWPORT NEWS, VA-- R-MC Senior Molly Ariail scored 18 and pulled in 15 rebounds but CNU overcame the Yellow Jackets 78-67 in Newport News Wednesday.
Randolph-Macon's Maggie Roy (Richmond, VA/ Mills Godwin) converted two foul shots to spark a 7-0 Yellow Jacket run to put R-MC up 23-16 with 7:59 to go in the first half.
Barbara Davis scored a lay up for the Captains just before halftime to tie the game 32-32 heading into intermission.
Christopher Newport's Chelsie Schweers knocked down a jumper to start the second half to put CNU up 34-32. Schweers scored 26 in the game, 24 coming in the second half.
The Captains would lead by as many as 15 in the second half, winning by a final of 78-67.
Ariail (York, PA/ York Suburban) finished with a team high 18 points and 15 rebounds. Taylor Wieczorek chipped in with 12 points and three rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 4-2 and will be back in action Sunday, January 3rd, when they host Washington and Lee at 2:00 p.m.
