Naccarato Named VaSID Rookie-of-the-Year; Five Yellow Jackets among Commonwealth’s Best

ASHLAND, VA – Five Randolph-Macon College Football standouts were recently named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State Football squad, while freshman quarterback Zac Naccarato was recognized as the Commonwealth's Rookie-of-the-Year.

The ODAC Rookie-of-the-Year as well, Naccarato finished second in the conference in passing efficiency at 159.7, and he completed 66.7-percent (144-of-26) of his passes for 2,105 yards and 14 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. Over the final five weeks of the season, Naccarato fired 10 touchdown passes and completed 70.6-percent (84-of-119) of his passes for 1,408 yards (281.6 ypg). That stretch included a big contest against Catholic in which he earned Player of the Week honors.

Senior defensive end Joe Pricone was named First-Team All-State by VaSID following a senior season in which he was the ODAC's sack leader with seven. Pricone also made 18 stops behind the line of scrimmage which tied for the top spot in the league as well. For his efforts, Pricone was a first-team all-league choice and was honored by the Richmond Touchdown Club as the Commonwealth's College Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Joining Pricone with VaSID accolades were center senior Andrew Sloan, senior running back Thaddeus Scruggs, senior defensive end Patrick Moses and junior kicker Josh Storm.

Sloan helped pave the way for an R-MC ground attack which fashioned a 200 yard per game average in 2011. The Randolph-Macon offense averaged 36.4 points per game and racked up over 426 yards per contest.

A beneficiary of Sloan's blocking was Scruggs, who wrapped up his career in Ashland ranked third in the ODAC with 911 yards this season. Scruggs carried the ball 190 times for a 4.8 yards-per-carry average, while scoring 12 touchdowns on the season.

Moses had 36 total tackles, 6.5 of which went for a loss and he had two quarterback sacks on the year as well, while Storm was tops among ODAC kickers with 74 points on the season. He converted 38-of-40 extra points and was 12-of-16 on field goal attempts.
