R-MC Mourns the Loss of Longtime Radio Voice Terry Sisisky
ASHLAND, VA – The longtime voice of Randolph-Macon Football Terry Sisisky passed away on Thursday evening, after a battle with cancer. Sisisky was 58.
Sisisky, who was behind the microphone for almost every Yellow Jackets' game for over the last 15 years , had expanded to the internet with streaming video and audio in recent years to bring as many R-MC fans as possible all the action both at home and on the road.
"I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Terry's passing," said R-MC Head Football Coach Pedro Arruza. "Terry was truly one of a kind. I loved working with him – he was energetic, upbeat and always full of personality. We met every Wednesday morning during the season. I always looked forward to those meetings. No matter how things were going – good or bad – he always made me laugh. I would remind him every week that the wives listened to the broadcasts. That made him very self-conscious. He was just a great human being. I'm really going to miss him."
Sisisky broadcasted youth-league games, high school games, college games and professional games in the area. He called his first VCU game on Nov. 28, 1980. Sisisky retired from VCU in 2008 after 840 basketball games and 28 years.
Sisisky was inducted into the VCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Richmond Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He received the Frank Soden Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., at Bliley's Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Ave. in Richmond.
